The raingutter regatta is a racing event for Cub Scouts that is the sailboat equivalent of the pinewood derby.

The boats are raced in a standard rain gutter that is ten feet long, placed on a table or saw horses, and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by blowing on the sail, either directly or through a drinking straw; the boat cannot be touched with hands or the straw. The first boat to reach the end of the gutter is the winner. The overall winner is determined by an elimination system. We will have recognition prizes for speed and design/creativity this year.

Pack 99 will be there from 3PM to 6PM. Stay for all or part of the time.

HOW
A Scout is Thrifty, so let your creative thoughts flow for your regatta build! Kits are available online, however a regatta boat can be made from simple materials found around home. Examples can be found online. A more common one is a pool noodle cut short, and then cut in half (to a semi-circle) with a popsicle stick mast and paper sail. We will have a table with some supplies like paper sheets for sails, scissors, pool noodle sections, plastic bottles, yogurt tubs, and coloring utensils for decorating sails, but feel free to bring and share your own materials. Get creative!!!

FOOD
Pack 99 will provide a snack. Feel free to bring additional snacks/drinks for your family.

UNIFORM Class A or Class B, scout’s choice.

Note: This will be the final event for the summer-time pin award.
